Anxiety, OCD and Trauma Counseling for Worried and Anxious Children in Long Beach and throughout the state of California (Online & In-Person)
You would do anything for your child. After all, they are your everything.
You wish you could grab a magical wand and make your child’s worries disappear. You notice that your child is feeling increasingly apprehensive. Sometimes they are clingy and seeking your reassurance. Other times, they avoid things that make them worried. Some days, they might seem so frustrated, and irritable, but they may struggle verbalizing what they are feeling. Fear and panic take over at times, and you have realized that they are spending time perseverating on what their mind tells them. Maybe you notice your child is spending a lot of time engaging in repetitive behaviors, some of which you might be able to observe, like frequent checking, hand washing, re-writing or doing things in a “just right” or perfectionist way.
Yet, your heart breaks knowing that your child is truly struggling.
You want your child to be happy, confident, know how to manage worries and focus on what is important. But you know that anxiety is likely one of the factors holding them back. At this point, you have exhausted your mom tricks, and you are starting to feel helpless. You know something is just not right. Seeking help shows you much you love your child and want the best for them.
I can help both of you.
My name is Shauna. I help children online and in my Long Beach office who are having challenges with OCD and anxiety. Many of the kids I help may also feel depressed and/or angry. Whether your child’s anxiety is connected to OCD, trauma or a recent stressor, vocal or motor tics or tourettes, social anxiety, body focused repetitive behaviors (e.g. hair pulling, skin picking etc), body dysmorphia, general everyday anxieties, separation anxiety, health related anxiety, test anxiety, phobias or panic symptoms, I help kids and parents learn strategies in order to respond, rather than react, and learn how to boss back their anxiety or OCD, so it’s no longer controlling them. I use evidence-based treatments based on science including Exposure and Response Prevention, Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Habit Reversal Training, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, SPACE (Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions) and Trauma-Focused CBT in order to help children manage their anxiety, which often results in decreased anxiety symptoms. I am trained in Comprehensive Behavioral Intervention for Tics (CBIT), an evidence-based treatment to treat tic disorders. Whether online or in-person, I use a playful and fun approach that may include art, videos and other experiential exercises.
As a child anxiety, OCD and trauma specialist in Long Beach and throughout California, I help children develop strategies to become more resilient, improve self-confidence and conquer their fears. I work as a partner with you, giving you strategies too, based on best-practices for parents of children with anxiety, to help you support your child at home, school and in their community.
